This banjo has a very unusual cocobolo fingerboard, and Nechville put all the inlays on the dark side, using smaller versions of the galaxy pattern. It had a prewar Gibson archtop tone ring, but recently I replaced it with one of Nechville's wood rings; it took less than fifteen minutes, and now I have a banjo weighing about seven pounds. The strap was made for me by the late James Alan Shelton (Ralph Stanley's guitar player), who sent it as a Christmas present one year.
