FON 9596-1. Gibson Granada FON 9596-1, a factory archtop, one piece flange banjo once owned by bluegrass legend Don Stover and later kept and played by family members. It includes the original archtop tone ring (currently fitted with a Huber HR-30) and retains the original armrest and clamshell tailpiece, though the resonator has been refinished and most of the gold hardware has been replated.
The neck is an excellent Frank Neat with the correct hearts-and-flowers pattern. Sonically, this banjo pops — loud, projecting, and rich with the classic prewar Gibson tone: bright punch, long sustain, and complex overtones. With its proven provenance and playable condition, this Granada offers the mojo of Don Stover and the look and feel of a holy-grail bluegrass instrument without full museum pricing.
Ideal for a player or collector who wants a historically interesting, road-ready prewar Gibson. It includes a strap that says "Ray Stover", Don's brother.
Fresh setup, plays and sounds exactly as it should!
