Much rarer and harder to find than the Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard, the Gibson 49 Classic (fewer than 400 made) was patterned after Earl Scruggs’ original prewar Granada. In 1950, Scruggs sent that banjo to Gibson for fret work and other updates—and it came back with the distinctive bowtie inlay pattern featured on this Earl Scruggs 49 Classic.
It absolutely has “the sound.”
Beautiful tiger maple neck, stunning sunburst on resonator, Kulesh tone ring, and the kind of power and tone you only get from a truly great Mastertone.
A stunning, rare banjo with all the right pedigree.
