Excellent condition. Serial no. 800286. Beautiful blonde maple banjo with a bookmatched figured maple resonator edged by three concentric purfling rings visible on the back. Cream binding frames the fingerboard, resonator rim, and heelcap. The three-piece maple neck features a rosewood stringer down the center, an ebony peghead overlay with a Gold Star logo, and Hearts-and-Flowers inlay on both the peghead and flat ebony fingerboard. A black “Mastertone block” sits at the 21st fret. It has a 40-hole archtop tone ring, nickel hardware, and tuners fitted with matching pearloid buttons. A Shubb 5th-string capo is installed alongside the fingerboard.
These early Saga archtops are noted for their strong sound, and this banjo is no exception — surprisingly full-bodied with extra bottom end and presence for an archtop. Fresh setup, plays and sounds exactly as it should!
